This September 19th, we celebrate International Zouk Day.

Every year, groups from all over the world come together to participate. This year, around 50 groups are taking part, performing the choreography created by Alisson R. Sandi and Magdalena “Maggie” Zieba, with the song Baile Inolvidable by DJ Kakah, in different locations around their cities.

The event originally grew out of the International Zouk Flash Mob (IZFM). The idea was sparked by a flash mob in Perth, Australia. On September 16th, 2012, community leaders organized the first-ever IZFM event.

By 2015, the event officially evolved into International Zouk Day, moving beyond just a flash mob to become a worldwide celebration.

The movement was established around this vision:

Our vision is to make Brazilian Zouk more popular amongst dancers from all backgrounds and encourage new people to join and learn Brazilian Zouk.

One way to do that is by learning and performing the same choreography around the world, as one family. This stays true to the IZD vision:

“Uniting the World with Zouk.”

The idea is that Brazilian Zouk has the power to bring people together in a peaceful, social, and fun way, through connection.
